Bhubaneswar (Samrudha Odisha): India has scripted history in the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup, defeating Nepal in both the men’s and women’s categories to secure a historic double victory.The first-ever Kho Kho World Cup was held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi, from 13th January to 19th January, with today’s finals witnessing India’s triumph over Nepal. The Indian women’s team won with a score of 78-40, while the men’s team claimed victory with a score of 54-36. During the final match, Odisha’s Sports Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, attended the event at the Indira Gandhi Stadium. After the victory, he congratulated the players. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Suraj said, Kho Kho is our indigenous sport. This historic victory in the inaugural World Cup fills us with pride and glory. As a proud sponsor of the Indian National Kho Kho Teams, Odisha is committed to support their growth. This golden victory marks a new chapter in Kho Kho’s legacy and will inspire millions of young athletes across the nation to pursue excellence in sports. Notably, Odisha players Magai Majhi and Subhashree Singh represented India in the women’s team, while Pabani Sabar was part of the men’s team. The Odisha government has sponsored the Indian National Kho Kho Teams from January 2025 to December 2027, committing Rs 5 crore annually, totaling Rs 15 crore over three years. The sponsorship aims to promote the development of Kho Kho and nurture the players for greater achievements on the global stage.
